US trade deal
Factsheet Public Eye, 2026
The ‘joint statement’ from November 2025 raises several red flags about a trade agreement between Switzerland and the United States. Our analysis of the framework document shows how, by striking this deal, the Swiss Federal Council would breach its own principles of foreign economic policy, encourage climate‑damaging investments and put environmental and safety standards at risk.
These reasons should compel Switzerland to refuse an imposed agreement. It is economically strong enough to do so and, rather than aligning itself with Trump, should stand up for a just global trade order.
