Context

Over the last twenty years, the seed market has become highly concentrated. A handful of agrochemical multinationals now controls the global seed market. The Basle giant, Syngenta ranks third in this sector. The cornerstone of the domination is the issue of intellectual property rights on seeds. This represents a threat to food security and the right to food. And this threat weighs heavily on the countries of the South.

Our commitment No patents on seeds

Public Eye stands against patents on seeds and is in favour of laws that protect breeding rights that respect farmers’ rights. We work in coalitions at both Swiss an international levels on “No patents on seeds” and APBREBES.
