Workers‘ Rights Violations in the Indian Leather and Footwear Industry

The present study takes a closer look at labour rights in the Indian leather and footwear industry: Which economic and political changes have been made in recent years in both sectors, and how have these developments affected the situation of industry workers? The findings point to rampant violations of labour rights, aggravated by exclusionary social structures of caste and gender.
